Cabeza Netlabel has been releasing some of the dopiest digital cumbia artists for a long time now. Actually Cabeza was one of if not the first digital cumbia label I got into when I first started exploring the “genre” (I put quotes because of the strong minded cumbieros have different opinions about this matter).
Cherman is the leader of the label and a good producer and web designer as well. The nu cumbia community is fortunate to have someone like him pushing out these great releases. One in particular I will called Qechuaboi I will post about now.
Upon discussion with Cherman I found that Qechuaboi programs beats on his Korg Electribe sampler which in my opinion is the best Korg sampler out there. He mixes in his digital cumbia with the beats making a unique sound. Living in Barcelona and Peru I can hear the different influences that make up his sound but I’m not saying his sound is limited to those regions. It has no limits as in my opinion no music does.

Leaving the chicha these next ones go more futuristic while still keeping old school with the rhythms.

Qechuaboi is so wicked, I love his tracks and his release with cabeza. It’s funny because we know each other from school but I had no idea Diego was Qechuaboi until I saw his pic on the Cabeza site. I wrote to him on Facebook and we had a laugh, he didn’t know I was djing/producing as Chulkilion Soundsystem either. He’s coming back to Peru later this month, I can’t wait to play around with his Electribe and play at some parties with him.
Awesome! Hearing the use of the Electribe definitely won me over especially with digital cumbia. Some of the best are from Peru I’ve noticed.
