Ever since I joined the cumbia blogging universe I’ve been able to experience a tremendous amount of music I would have had a much harder time finding otherwise. Many times in the past I’ve wanted to go deep and explore specific artists music but felt reluctant on Generation Bass anyway to dedicate that much of my Sexxy Saturday Cumbia posts to just one person. I have however done this a couple of times but mostly I prefer to keep that blog more as a dopest cumbia track roundup featuring lots of different talent. This is another reason why I started Nu Cumbia Experience. So I can basically do as I please when it comes to artist profiles, EP releases, and all other sorts of exposés.
As I was saying I’ve encountered many artists that have become favorites of mine. Today I wish to write about Capitol K aka Kristian Craig Robinson. Capitol K originally mostly produced melodic lo fi guitar based electronic music but after encountering the digital cumbia scene in South America he became inspired to dive into playing around with nu cumbia. In so doing he brought his own unique deep melodic style into the mix which in turn has created several of my top favorite nu cumbia tracks. Here I will post some of my favorites for all those who haven’t had the pleasure to experience Capitol K’s sounds and for those who love him as much as I do to indulge.
I was jealous when he remixed Art of Noise’s classic and my favorite AON tune Moments In Love along with Cholita Sound. I attempted to produce a cumbia salsa edit of this song a while back but it came out atrocious (which is the reason for the friendly jealousy). Capitol K however did it so extremely well. Not only is this the best Cholita remix in my opinion but it is also the best AON remix. It’s just simply brilliant.

Driving late at night while listening to Crystal Fighters on the radio Capitol K was inspired to produce this remix.
Another interesting outfit in London is the group Vadoinmessico. Formed of band members from all over the Earth this band writes and performs incredible psychedelic folk music. Here is Capitol K’s remix of their song Teeo.
One of the smoothest lo fi mixtapes also comes from the hands and mind of Capitol K. Mixing psychedelia, cumbia, and huayno. What came about is a soul moving mix. This mix too is a promo for his soon to be released album Andean Dub which will be out May 2012. He had these songs individually uploaded in the past which was a great gift for those who got to hear them however if you didn’t fear not. Enjoy the mix and get the album in May. I will send out an update in order to remind you.
I’m sure you would like some video of Capitol K in action. I have just the fix for you.
These are just the nu cumbia tracks. If you feel like you want more of Capitol K then explore his world on YouTube where there are more really fun videos. Feel free to check out his official site for updates here.
